Wearing colorful wigs, 120 revelers raised more than $135,000 for Cancer Support Sonoma at the annual WigOut Sonoma fundraiser on Sept. 25 at Jacuzzi Family Vineyards in Sonoma.

“Our goal was $125,000, and we exceeded that goal,” said Scott Murray, president of the board for Cancer Support Sonoma.

Singer and guitarist Sean Carscadden performed during the event’s cocktail reception. Live auction items included a San Francisco Bay cruise, a four-day Sonoma retreat with a wine tour, and a sports fan package featuring four San Francisco Giants tickets behind home plate, two Sonoma Stompers season tickets and four Sonoma Raceway NASCAR tickets for 2026.

Cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, often lead to hair loss, but “WigOut Sonoma,” founded in 2019, tackles these challenging realities with both humor and grace.

“The derivation of WigOut was finding a way to have fun with an experience that is difficult for people,” Murray said. “Almost everyone wears a wig. People tell us it is their favorite fundraiser because of that humor on a serious subject.”

While the event is lighthearted, it serves a deeper purpose.

“What we do is provide integrated therapy for people living with a cancer diagnosis,” Murray said.

Cancer Support Sonoma champions a variety of programs, including integrative therapies like acupuncture and massage, counseling, wellness classes and support groups. These services help individuals and families in the Sonoma Valley cope with the physical and emotional challenges of cancer.

Additionally, the organization supports end-of-life doula services, providing non-medical support, companionship and guidance to individuals, as well as to their families, complementing medical care such as hospice.

Cancer Support Sonoma relies on donations to sustain its programs. For more information, visit cancersupportsonoma.org
