Authorities have identified the pedestrian killed last week on Highway 101 in Healdsburg as 57-year-old Clinton Smith.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office said the man did not have a permanent address. Smith was walking along the shoulder of the highway when the California Highway Patrol said he wandered into traffic and was struck by a Ford F-150 pick-up truck.
The crash occurred on the southbound part of the highway near the Dry Creek and Central Healdsburg on-ramps, causing major closures and forcing traffic to be diverted through local roads in Healdsburg.
Law enforcement officials didn’t say why Smith walked into traffic.
CHP Officer David DeRutte said the driver of the Ford F-150 stopped immediately and cooperated with authorities who responded to the crash.
No other injuries or fatalities were reported.
