A Pleasanton man has agreed to serve an 11-year prison sentence for killing a man in 2021, allegedly during an argument over a woman, court records show.

Steven Eubanks, 33, pleaded no contest to voluntary manslaughter in the fatal shooting of 50-year-old Dwight Burton. Prosecutors said in court filings that Eubanks, Burton and several others were involved in the argument, before Eubanks shot and killed Burton at around noon on May 26, 2021 on the 3200 block of 35th Avenue in Oakland’s Allendale neighborhood.

In exchange for Eubanks’ plea, Alameda County prosecutors dropped a murder charge against him.

Police arrested Eubanks based on a description of a Lexus he was driving, which eyewitnesses identified as belonging to the shooter. Eubanks reportedly told police the car belonged to a relative, Darryon Williams, who at the time was facing pending charges of murdering a man in Discovery Bay and then shooting at first responders.
