A fire damaged an apartment building in San Rafael and displaced a family on Saturday.

The fire was reported around 12:20 p.m. at a 12-unit, two-story apartment complex at 81 Woodland Ave., Deputy Fire Chief Robert Sinnott said.

The fire was within a second-floor apartment. Firefighters contained the fire to the one apartment.

“Investigators are looking at a water heater closet inside the fire-damaged unit as a possible place of origin,” Sinnott said.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance and support services to the displaced family.
