DIAMOND BAR >> Covina quarterback Jake Duronslet threw five touchdown passes to lead an offensive explosion over host Diamond Bar, 49-32, Thursday night in a Hacienda League game.

Duronslet competed 17 of 21 passes for 206 yards and his five TD passes gave him 17 this season.

Sophomore running back Gatsbee Gumban and junior wide receiver Matthew Olivas Jr. each scored two touchdowns for the Colts, who improved to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in league.

Diamond Bar dropped to 0-7 and 0-2.

Gumban ran for a game-high 222 yards on 21 carries. In addition to scoring on a 90-yard run, he also caught a 41-yard touchdown pass.

Olivas, who hauled in five catches for 74 yards, scored on touchdown receptions of 4 and 38 yards.

Brahmas senior quarterback Quinton Mendoza completed 11 of 18 passes for a 197 yards and ran for a score, but also had two interceptions.

Leading the way on the ground for Diamond Bar was senior running back Isaac Insuasti with 60 yards on 10 carries and a 45-yard touchdown reception. He caught three passes for 74 yards.

Brahmas senior wide receiver Collin Pearce caught four passes for a team-high 94 yards.

Covina scored on its opening possession, going 60 yards in four plays.

After the Brahmas fumbled the ball on their own 40, Duronslet found Gumban behind the defense for the easy score and 7-0 lead.

The Colts took a 14-0 lead on Duronslet’s 22-yard touchdown pass to Hines Soto.

On the ensuing Diamond Bar possession, the Brahmas cut the lead to 14-7 with a great diving catch by junior wide receiver Zein Abdelaziz.

The two teams combined for 54 points in the second and third quarters, with Covina holding a 42-26 lead.

The third quarter was the big scoring frenzy, as each team scored three times.

Also scoring for Diamond Bar was junior running back Dominic Tortorelli on an 8-yard run and senior fullback Matthew Galvan, who went up the middle for a 1-yard score.

Also scoring for the Colts was senior wide receiver Devean Urrea and senior wide receiver Seth Devers.
