COVINA >> There’s still no telling what Northview football’s ceiling might be.

You figured San Dimas, a team on a three-game winning streak averaging 37 points and 322 rushing yards, might be the one to make the Vikings sweat or give them a scare.

But Northview did to San Dimas what it has to all the others on Friday at Covina District Field.

The Vikings raced to an early lead and pulled away to win comfortably, beating San Dimas 40-10 to remain undefeated at 7-0 and 2-0 in the Valle Vista League.

Vikings running back Keanu Tauvao did most of the damage offensively, rushing for 173 yards and three touchdowns. Quarterback Erik Jimenez threw a 69-yard TD pass and also ran in a score.

It was the sixth time that Northview, which has won every game by 23 or more points, held its opponent to 10 points or less.

San Dimas dropped to 5-2 and 1-1, and got a decent game from quarterback Brandon Meredith, who threw for 112 yards.

But the Saints couldn’t pound the ball on the ground like they have all season. Tristan Fiero led them with 104 yards, with most coming on a 45-yard touchdown run. Julian Vigil finished with 34 yards and Caleb Morquecho was held to just eight yards.

One could give the game ball to Tauvao, but the Vikings’ defense is more than deserving, too.

Jimenez got the Vikings going.

The Saints looked like they were going to force a Vikings punt on third-and-long, but Jimenez hit Jaishon Bledose over the middle and he ran it 69 yards for a touchdown and 7-0 lead.

The Vikings defense held the Saints for two consecutive drives then went to work on the ground. Tauvao had a 15- and 18-yard run before finishing with a 14-yard touchdown run, going untouched for a 13-0 lead early in the second quarter after the missed extra point.

The Saints drove to the Vikings’ eight hoping to cash it in, but they had to settle on Brady Arriaga’s 30-yard field goal to trim the Vikings’ lead to 13-3.

The Vikings would answer just before the break. Jimenez ran in a six-yard touchdown with under two minutes left and the Vikings led 20-3 at half.

Tauvao extended their lead with a 24-yard touchdown run up the left side with under six minutes left in the third quarter to go up 27-3.

The Saints finally got in the end zone on Fierro’s 45-yard touchdown run with 2:50 left in the third quarter to cut the Vikings’ lead to 17 points, but that’s as close as they got.

Tauvao and Robert Lucero added touchdowns in the fourth quarter to close it out.
