A 22-year-old man from West Bloomfield died Monday after the motorcycle he was driving collided with a Honda CRV vehicle near the intersection of Northwestern Highway and 14 Mile Road in Farmington Hills.

While an investigation continues, police said preliminary findings indicate excessive speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash, which happened at approximately 3:45 p.m.

Farmington Hills police officers and Farmington Hills Fire Department paramedics provided first aid to the motorcyclist before he was transported to Corewell Health Farmington Hills Hospital where he died from his injuries, police said.

Police haven’t yet released the motorcyclist’s name but did confirm he had been wearing a helmet.

The driver of the Honda CRV was a 21-year-old Clarkston man, police said.

“Our heartfelt condolences go out to the family and loved ones affected by this tragic loss,” Police Chief John Piggott said. “As the weather warms and we see an increase in motorcycle activity, we urge all riders to wear helmets, use reflective gear and obey speed limits. Drivers are urged to stay alert, check blind spots and avoid distractions to ensure everyone’s safety.”

Anyone with information related to the crash is asked to contact the Farmington Hills Police Department’s command desk 248-871-2610.
