Oakland County’s hazardous materials team was called to the City of Southfield’s municipal campus on Wednesday to evaluate a suspicious package mailed to WXYZ-TV’s Channel 7 news station — and subsequently determined the contents posed no danger to the public, officials said.

Police took possession of the package from the television station, located on 10 Mile Road in Southfield, and transported it to the city campus for examination, according to Deputy Police Chief Aarn Huguley.

The OakWAY HazMat team — which includes the Southfield Fire Department — was brought in as a precaution to evaluate the liquids inside the package, Huguley said.

Further details — such as what the contents were identified as and package dimensions — haven’t been released due to the ongoing investigation, Huguley said.
