The Woodland City Council recently approved the final acceptance and completion of the 2022 Spring Lake Parks project.

The resolution was passed during the Tuesday, Nov. 5 meeting, with one abstention from Councilwoman Mayra Vega due to the park’s proximity to her home. Mayor Tania Garcia-Cadena was not in attendance.

The project includes three Spring Lake parks: Jack Slaven Park, Rick Gonzales Senior Park, and Spring Lake Park.

According to the resolution, Woodland City Council members authorized a bid advertisement of the project on June 28, 2022, and it was awarded to the contractor Olympic Landscape Construction, Inc. on July 19, 2022.

Jack Slaven Park, located at 1705 Mieikle Ave., is one of the three parks that completed its second phase of the park, adding a dog exercise area and half a basketball court. It opened on Sept. 22, 2023.

Rick Gonzales Sr. Park, located at 2109 Miekle Ave., added the construction of a tennis court, a full basketball court, and native planting and was opened to the public on Dec. 1, 2023.

Spring Lake Park, located at 1904 Shellhammer Dr., now includes a multi-use court, playground area for 5-12-year-olds, restrooms, native planting areas, a youth soccer field, paved and decomposed granite paths with benches, and a group picnic shelter, among other landscaping elements. The park was opened to the public earlier this year in February.
