An Oakland County woman and her husband celebrated an unforgettable anniversary when they won $2 million on an instant lottery ticket.

The 44-year-old player chose to remain anonymous but said she and her husband like to buy different types of scratch-off tickets. She bought the winning ticket, a Diamonds & Gold game, at Opdyke Featherstone Mobil, 810 North Opdyke Road in Auburn Hills.

They scratched the $20 ticket off together on their wedding anniversary and he noticed the $2 million prize first. They took it to the store to scan it.

“A message came up to file a claim at the Lottery office, so we asked a friend to scan it on her Lottery app,” she said. “I started shaking and was in total shock when $2 million came up on the screen. It was so exciting and the best surprise on our anniversary!”

They decided to take a one-time lump sum payment of close to $1.3 million. They plan to buy a house, invest and set aside some of the money for their children’s education.

Lottery Commissioner Suzanna Shkreli offered congratulations to the couple and said it was great to learn some of the money will be used for their children’s education.

The Diamonds & Gold game, launched in March 2024, has so far paid out $54 million. Prizes range from $20 up to $2 million. More than $49 million in prizes remain, including one $2 million top prize, 21 $5,000 prizes, and 113 $2,000 prizes.
