The Warren Police Department is asking for information that could help identify a vehicle that was involved in a large antifreeze spill that occurred on Eight Mile Road on July 1.
At approximately 5:44 a.m. on Tuesday, July 1, Warren police and fire units responded to multiple calls regarding a hazerdous material spill on Eight Mile Road near Van Dyke Avenue on the Warren/Detroit border.
Upon arrival, emergency responders confirmed that approximately 175 gallons of antifreeze had spilled onto the roadway from an unknown vehicle that fled the scene. Investigators also observed a large plastic container of antifreeze with no company markings or other identifying information lying in the roadway.
Due to the size of the spill and potential environmental concerns, the road was temporarily closed while the Wayne County Road Commission conducted cleanup operations.
Responders confirmed there was no environmental or health risk from the spill. However, the emergency response and cleanup efforts are estimated to have cost over $10,000.
Detectives from the Warren Police Department Detective Bureau have been investigating the incident, reviewing CCTV footage, and other electronic resources and have determined that a black Ford pickup truck is responsible for the spill. The Ford pickup has a yellow cage in the truck bed and was observed pulling an unknown type of trailer with a large plastic container of antifreeze on the trailer at the time of the incident.
After the spill, the Ford was last seen traveling northbound on VanDyke Avenue.
The Warren Police Department asks anyone with information regarding this incident or the whereabouts of the Ford truck to contact Warren Police Detective R. Addis at 586-574-4771 or raddis@warrenpd.org.
