


A man is dead on Detroit’s east side after what is being described as a shootout with Warren officers early Tuesday.
According to Warren police, a man who is a city resident was shot and killed outside of a home at Montlieu Street and Castle Avenue in Detroit sometime after 3 a.m.
Detroit and Michigan State police and the Detroit Fire Department are working with the Warren Police Department to investigate the incident. It was reported the man, who was a Warren resident, was killed outside of his mother’s home.
According to a press release from the Warren Police Department, the incident began as a domestic violence and attempted arson call that came in just after 3 a.m. Officers were dispatched to a home in the 13000 block of Prospect Street. The female who called 911 reported her boyfriend strangled and assaulted her before attempting to set the residence on fire.
She told officers her boyfriend fled the scene in a Chrysler sedan prior to their arrival. The victim did not sustain any serious injuries. Warren police officers believed the suspect was armed and dangerous due to reports he had allegedly brandished a handgun during a previous domestic violence incident.The suspect who was killed allegedly fired several shots at officers during a vehicle and subsequent foot pursuit after he fled his Warren residence and led officers to the home in Detroit near Van Dyke Avenue and McNichols Road. Warren police officers returned fire.
After the foot pursuit, officers located the suspect with a gunshot wound to the head in front of the home on Detroit’s east side. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured during the incident.
This is an ongoing and open investigation. Police did not provide the name of the man who was killed.
