Marketing and Sales is one of the CTE courses students can choose. This class helps students gain knowledge of the real business world and what can happen when running a business.
This class is taught by Janice Radlick, Radlick said, “My students have learned how to run a business and the difficulties of running a business.”
Student Hannah Houth said, “We learn about market research, consumer behavior, branding, sales, and advertising.” Those are just some of the many things they learn in this class.
The students in this class also run the school store. Houth also said, “This class will help me in the future with my marketing knowledge and will help me develop effective marketing strategies.”
Senior Grace Vanderstorm said “I can gain experience in the business world. Working on assignments brings us through the everyday things we need to pursue a business career.” This shows you can take good things away from these classes and put them into the real world.
The Shorian Shop class is good for setting students up for the real world and jobs after graduation. During the classes, the students are given a work shift or schedule. The students use registers, money, popcorn machines, PowerPoint, spreadsheets, and drink stations throughout the class. Shorian Shop is also a great place for students to gain work experience.
Students also learn financial skills through reports, and SWOT analysis and develop communication skills while dealing with customers.
At Lake Shore High School, the marketing sales class has helped many students learn all there is to know about a business, from how to work a cash register to how to navigate and promote a business. The CTE course has shown the students the highs and lows of starting a business and how to keep it running while going through hardships and struggles.
