Media Productions is a Career and Technical Education (CTE) class; a hands-on course offered for creative people available as an elective through Lake Shore High School.
Tamela Blaszkowski teaches this full-year class to students interested in advancing their cameras, digital videos, and graphic design skills. Blaszkowski said, “It’s also a great fit for students interested in a different form of artistic expression. Those willing to work in teams, and those comfortable working with computers.”
There are many aspects to taking this class, the skills and learning that go along with it. Blaszkowski said, “Students advance their camera skills, learn the art of storytelling, and create projects that convey a narrative through film. They participate in one video competition during the year, take field trips, and hear from guest speakers who discuss career opportunities. The focus is on building both technical and soft skills, individually and in teams.”
Abigail Smith, junior, said, “Getting real-life work experience and getting to edit and go to events” have been her favorite aspects of Media Production.
Students have conducted numerous video productions for not only Lake Shore High School but also different facilities across the Metro Detroit Area. This helps both students get more experience in this workforce if they decide to go further in this career field.
Blazkowski’s students have won innumerable awards since 2019 when the CTE course officially began. Their efforts as a team have helped the program grow and have different connections across not only Michigan but the United States. This helps the students create different and diverse connections with those who have better knowledge surrounding this field.
There can be ups and downs in this class, between the workload and enjoying competitions. Students can take valuable information out of experiences, especially when they get to experience them firsthand, whether taking a field trip to media career days or listening in on guest speakers.
James Sheen, senior, said, “It taught me how to work well with others and how to manage differences in ideas.”
Smith similarly said, “It makes you have to work with others to get a common goal done, and have to learn how to communicate.”
Like getting anything to work, teamwork and effort are key to getting things to work.
Majorly in taking this CTE class you have to create a bond with your group and create for assignments.
