Lake Shore High School offers several different CTE courses including Digital Design. This class is led by Mallory Buzun-Miller. Digital design is a course that focuses on creativity, design, and problem-solving. Not only is it an interactive and helpful course, it helps prepare students for careers and opportunities in the business and technology worlds.
Miller said, “Students learn to use linear thinking. This makes students use processes to get to their answers instead of it being handed to them”
For students considering taking a digital design course, Miller said, “If they want to design using technology and then be able to do fun hands-on projects, then I would recommend they take this class.”
Miller said, “The most important things I want my students to walk away with after taking this class are design thinking and problem-solving. Those are the main things that will travel over to career paths.”
Some of the many different digital design projects use 3D printers, laser cutters, shirt making, and stickers, but they all start digitally. This is also a no-experience-required class. Expedito Rivera, a student in Digital Design, said, “I’m really into art so Digital Design is perfect for me as we design websites and do a lot of digital art. I get to use this class for my creative outlet.”
Miller shared that this class prepares students for personal and business software and opens their eyes to the art of digital software.
She said, “Students explore graphic communication through the understanding of the elements and principles of design; as well as, the design process, from idea development through the final execution of a document.”
Miller shares how students can use the skills acquired in Digital Design after high school. She said, “Students will be able to use these to think logically and out of the box to solve problems while using creativity and reasoning.”
Digital Design has many different benefits that come along with taking the course. It has prepared students for careers and opportunities in the business and technology field. This course has helped students find enjoyment in art and also pursue it in the future.
Miller stated, “I find it benefits students by developing essential skills for both unemployment and entry to postsecondary education at community colleges, universities, trade schools, and on-the-job programs.”
Lucas Huffman, another student in the class, said, “I have been looking into many different art programs at different schools. Taking this class just solidified my decision.”
Miller’s Digital Design class is an excellent class to take if you find interest in the business and technology world. Miller’s classroom is a comfortable learning environment with many different pathways to different careers.
