To the Editor:
I just read the article in The Post Newspaper where the city council has determined that we do not have a deer "problem" in Medina. I am not sure where they have been studying the deer population, but at my house we do have a problem. I have lost thousands of dollars worth of landscaping just this past summer and it has not been any better this fall. I have an invisible fence on both sides of my house and three sides of my backyard are fenced in for our dog. I can not let my dog out in the backyard without putting her on a leash as there are always deer bedding down or eating their next meal. The deer have gotten so bold as to come up on my patio and porch to eat my potted plants. We even had a female birth her twins in our neighbor's backyard for two years in a row.
At any given time, morning, noon or night, there are deer in our yard. We have had deer in our backyard snorting and hoofing the ground when we go to our storage shed trying to scare us off. It can be down right dangerous to go in our yard without first checking for deer as they get more aggressive when there are babies in tow or during mating season. When I saw them eating my neighbor's pumpkins this fall, I didn't even bother putting any on my porch, as we as residents are instructed not to feed them.
Something has to be done. It is not fair to us as residents to lose thousands of dollars every year replacing landscaping that will just be a deer's next meal. We have planted "deer resistant" plants and have sprayed every living thing in our yard with every spray we can find. Nothing has worked. I would really like the city to do a more extensive study so they can see that we actually do have a problem.
