To the Editor:
In post-election America, liberal protesters are marching in big cities to protest the fact Donald Trump won. In Indianapolis and Portland, protesters threw rocks and bottles at police and 8,000 people marched in Los Angeles. The protesters and many liberal editorialists are telling us that Trump won the election because his supporters were motivated to vote by racism and hatred. This simply is not true.
Let’s focus on the facts. The facts are that in 2016, there are over three million fewer people working than before Barack Obama became president. There are over 45 million people receiving food stamps and that number exploded under Obama. The federal deficit grew more under Obama than every past president combined. The pace of growth in the national GDP was slower in the last eight years than it was during the last six recoveries from recessions since 1960. Overseas, Syria is burning, Russia is invading neighbors, North Korea’s nuclear program is expanding as a threat, the Iranian mullahs have billions in U.S. funds to spend on terrorism and illegal immigrants are flooding Europe.
The record over the last eight years is clear. A tepid economy, rampant growth in debt and our standing in the world is declining. No, I did not vote for Trump due to racism, hatred or to hold other people down. While he was not my first choice, I voted for Trump because our great country could not afford eight more years with the terrible results of the past eight.
