Gear up for the next two parts of Trump’s Don’t Care Plan
letter to the editor
To the Editor:

I just wanted to thank all of you who voted for Donald Trump. Your vote has enabled the Republican Party to possibly repeal the ACA and give us the Trump Don’t Care Plan, even though he doesn’t want his name on the bill.

I guess it is kind of a shame that those who voted for Trump will probably also have the most to lose. The wealthy will have the most to gain. Those at the upper one percent income level will get a tax break of $33,000. Those at 0.1 percent will get a tax break of $19,000. These are the people who definitely need it the most. There will be deregulation of insurance companies, companies will be allowed to charge higher premiums to people with pre-existing conditions. Families who now receive subsidies linked to both income and premiums will just receive subsidies by age. AARP states “A 55-year-old making $55,000 a year will paying $3,6000 more for coverage; that rises to $8,600 for a 64-year-old making $15,000 a year.”

Weakened penalties for those not buying insurance and price hikes would lead many healthy Americans from buying insurance. This would worsen the risk pool – causing premiums to rise drastically and there will be no subsidies to offset this rise. Even less people will be able to afford insurance and will drop out of buying health care. If the states are given Medicaid block grants and the costs are more than the monies given to the state, the number of people covered by Medicaid will be much less. Millions more will lose their health care.

Perhaps if the Republicans hadn’t voted against the risk corridors back in 2015, premiums wouldn’t have risen and we could keep working on health care, going to a single payer health system. I just don’t get how anyone can call this the “greatest country in the world” when we are getting so behind in health care, innovation, education, job creation, not caring for our environment and the list goes on and on.

Please remember all that is being taken away now and in these next few months, get informed and please vote these people out! Oh, and by the way, check out gene testing and how it might effect your future health care and employment.

Get ready for parts two and three of Trump’s Don’t Care Plan.
