Zoning commission hearings take place later in month

SHARON TOWNSHIP – When the Sharon Township Board of Zoning Appeals met Nov. 9, members approved the request of Ernest and Christine Staten to vary the side yard setback on a back lot for the construction of a building on the property located at 7552 Beach Road.

The BZA will conduct its final 2016 meeting Dec. 14 at 7:30 p.m.

Zoning Commission

At the Nov. 17 meeting of the zoning commission, members scheduled the following public hearings for Dec. 22 at 7 p.m:

• Provisions to be placed in the book prohibiting the following: Article IV General Provisions – 400-4 Medical marijuana cultivators, processors, retail and wholesale dispensaries or laboratories are prohibited in all zoning districts of Sharon Township. 

Zoning Amendments for the following will be considered: 

• PJWK Land Company, 2620 Medina Road, requesting to rezone their property to 1,000 commercial depth.  

• Thomas Burger, 1096 Medina Road, requesting to rezone 4 acres (parcel 033-12B-07-540) from R-1 Residential/C-2Commerical to fully C-2 Commercial to expand the storage complex. 

Both meetings will take place at the township administration building on Sharon Circle.

Trustees' public hearing

On Nov. 22, Sharon Township Trustees held a public hearing, at which they approved amendments to the Zoning Resolution, that were previously OK'd by the zoning commission. Trustees are mandated by law to follow with another public hearing. They agreed to a more detailed definition regarding rear and side-yard set-backs. However, the rear-yard set-back remains the same at 25 feet as does the side-yard setback of 15 feet.

The placement for political signs that was allowed 60 days before an election has been changed to 30 days. Political signs must now be removed within three days after an election. Previously, candidates were given 10 days to remove signs.

Zoning activity

During November, Zoning Inspector Neil Jones and Assistant Zoning Inspector Melissa Hydel issued permits for two new homes, one addition, one accessory building, two rezoning amendments, three conditional zoning applications and one agricultural exemption.

Bob Turek, township maintenance supervisor, issued 18 permits for town hall rentals.
