Asking for money with an opinion survey is just wrong
Letter to the editor

To the Editor:

I just received a survey in the mail. It is titled Ask America Nationwide Policy Survey. It has questions about the economy, taxes, health care, etc. I thought that this could give me an opportunity to have my voice heard. At the end of the survey, to my surprise, is a request for money. It asks for my generous contribution ranging from $35 to $1,000 or the option of "Other." If you can't send a contribution at this time, you can enclose $15 to help pay for the processing of the survey. This is sad! I feel my opinion will be heard only based on the amount of money I'm willing to give them.

The mailing came from the National Republican Congressional Committee. That does not matter. Any political party willing to disguise an attempt to get money with an opinion survey is just wrong!
