As the crowds filed out of the Zesiger Center at MIT following the MIAA boys’ North Sectional swim championships, an all too familiar chant led them — P-R-E-P! Prep, Prep, Prep!

St. John’s Prep captured its 11th straight North Sectional title, scoring 332.5 points to squeak past Westford Academy (314).

The Eagles held off Westford in large part due to their depth and leadership.

“This was, without a doubt, one of the best team wins we’ve ever had,’’ coach Tony Padvaiskas said. “We put everything we had against Westford, and our kids just really rose to the occasion.’’

Senior captain Joseph Turk led the Eagles, finishing first in the 200-yard individual medley (1:50.85) and the 500-yard freestyle (4:36.14).

“Joe just loves to race and without question he’s a backstroker, one of the best backstrokers in state history and he did the 500 today because he knew we needed it as a team,’’ Padvaiskas said. “As a team captain, I can’t say enough about the character of Joe Turk.’’

Turk was quick to redirect his focus after briefly soaking in the chants that cascaded down on the Eagles following the win.

“This is awesome, you’ve got to enjoy it in the moment,’’ Turk said. “But, we’re viewing it as a steppingstone going into next week. Last year when this happened, we won Sections and then [Westford] got us at States because we got complacent. We are going to come back harder than ever next week.’’

The Grey Ghosts, who had won the last two meetings with the Prep — a dual meet last month in Westford and the 2015 state championship — were led by senior Jack Koravos, who won the 100 butterfly (50.54), and junior Jason Jung, who took home the 200 freestyle crown (1:41.08).

After Eagles freshman diver Ben Blizzard won the 1-meter diving event with a score of 503.95 to catapult the Eagles past Westford, the 400 freestyle relay team cemented St. John’s title with a fifth-place finish in the final event.

“The Prep is special, there’s no other way to put it,’’ Turk said.

As the Eagles exited the arena, coach Padvaiskas looked to his cheering section and pumped his fist.

“That’s what I call team swimming,’’ Padvaiskas said.

The Eagles hope to be special again next weekend at the Division 1 state championship.

Acton-Boxboro junior Corben Miles set a state record in the 50 freestyle (20.38), beating Jack Blyzinskyj of Weston’s time of 20.50, set in 2013. Miles also won the 100 free (45.19). The Colonials took third place with 276 points.
