Congregation not alone on its journey

Lisa Wangsness’s outstanding article “In search of sanctuary’’ (Page A1, May 22) only hints at a web of support that underlies the story of Sanctuary United Church of Christ. From denominational resources, such as conflict aid, pastoral search support, and the Crossroads program itself, the congregation was encouraged and accompanied on its brave journey, and still is.

Minutes after the story broke, the pastor of Sanctuary UCC received a call from a fellow UCC clergy colleague serving one of our thriving churches to say: We know this story too; we have humans and face the changing landscape and know it is hard to keep hope alive — you are not alone.

From the beginnings of the Christian Church to the struggles it faces today, that core message remains: In life, in death, in new life — you are not alone. This is a gift that Sanctuary United Church of Christ provides to every church — an embodiment of the faith we profess.
