Congratulations to reporter Lisa Wangsness and photographer Dina Rudick for their in-depth and gripping account of a faith community going through significant change (“In search of sanctuary’’). As a Catholic and a witness to many parish closings, I was intrigued by the democratic approach the United Church of Christ takes in adapting to change.

Whatever the bureaucratic structure, change such as that experienced by this West Medford church is heartrending and personal, and it was captured brilliantly by Wangsness and Rudick. The photo of congregants leaving the church for the last time was particularly moving.
