



Three administrators from the San Bernardino City Unified School District recently received awards from the Association of California School Administrators Region 12.
At the Region 12 spring awards dinner, held May 19 in Ontario, Amy Coker, the San Bernardino district’s director of elementary instruction, was honored as Region 12’s Curriculum and Instruction Administrator of the Year, according to a news release.
Keishia Handy, the district’s assistant director of elementary instruction, received Region 12’s Dr. Margaret B. Hill Social Justice Award. Hill, who died in 2021, had been a San Bernardino City Unified School District principal and Board of Education member.
Mauricio Arellano, superintendent of the San Bernardino City Unified School District, was honored as Region 12’s Superintendent of the Year.
Arellano, a San Bernardino native, was also recently named the Association of California School Administrators’ state Superintendent of the Year, and he was the inaugural recipient of the Dr. Margaret B. Hill Social Justice Award, according to the news release.
