SAN JOSE — A driver hit and killed a bicyclist Friday morning in San Jose, police said.

The collision happened around 4:20 a.m. at the intersection of North First Street and Trimble Road, San Jose police spokesperson Stacie Shih said in a news release.

The bicyclist, a man, died from his injuries at the scene. The Santa Clara County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will release his identity after it is confirmed and his next of kin is notified.

An investigation revealed the bicyclist was traveling northbound on North First Street in a crosswalk when he was hit by a gray 2004 Toyota Corolla traveling westbound on Trimble Road, according to Shih. The driver, a man, had a green light.

Shih said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. She said police do not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the deadly crash.

The incident marked the city’s 33rd traffic fatality of 2026. At this point last year, police had investigated 23 fatalities.
