Yet another new restaurant plans to being serving meals at Partridge Creek Mall in 2025.

Mr. Miguel’s Mexican Grill & Cantina is taking over the space formerly occupied by Bobcat Bonnie’s at the outdoor shopping center in Clinton Township. Owner Steve Savich is in the design phase of the new eatery, which he expects to open its doors this spring.

“We think this is a tremendous opportunity for us,” he said Monday. “Just watching the transformation of Mr. Miguel’s and the Mall at Partridge Creek in general will always be fun and exciting.”

Mall management has confirmed Mr. Miguel’s has joined its roster of shops, restaurants, and entertainment choices.

Spinoso Real Estate Group, which leases and manages the mall, leans heavily into recruiting new tenants. Miguel’s joins other mall newcomers, such as Andiamo Pasta & Chops and HopCat, to sign a lease. Also coming later this year is a new $11 million Powerhouse gym that will occupy much of the former Carson’s store.

This will be the fifth Mr. Miguel’s to open in metro Detroit, with the others located in downtown Utica, Warren, Livonia, and Brownstown Township. The name pays homage to another family restaurant the Savich family formerly owned in Westland.

“My parents have been in the restaurant industry since the late 1970s and owned a bunch of places,” said Savich said. “My father built a place in a shopping center run by him, myself and my brother called Mr. Mike’s Grill after Mike, my dad. Mike in Spanish is Miguel, so that’s what we named it. It came from Mr. Mike’s.”

As its name suggests, Mr. Miguel’s is a Mexican-themed eatery where sombreros are welcome.

In addition to fajitas, tacos, burritos, chimichangas and enchiladas, the place has several birria dishes such as pizza and tacos. Birria is a similar to a meat stew or soup, mainly made with goat or beef. The meat is marinated in an adobo made of vinegar, dried chiles, garlic, and herbs and spices that are all cooked in a broth.

On the drinks side, Miguel’s has award-winning margaritas, tequilas, beer and other beverages.

“Our birria items are on fire,” Savich said. “But our margaritas are definitely the star of the show.”

Savich, 45, of Novi, said this is the first Mr. Miguel’s that has a landlord. The family has previously owned all of their buildings. They opened their first location on Ryan Road near 11 Mile Road in 2015.

They signed the lease with Partridge Creek in early December and immediately started planning construction on the 5,500-square-foot space. The negotiated lease includes a courtyard in front of the building by a water fountain.

Bobcat Bonnie’s closed the doors on its Partridge Creek location for good after a four-year run in the summer of 2024. Before that, the space was leased by Max & Erma’s.
