Two initiated ordinances related to the Estes Park Development Code have drawn petitions from citizens.
One of the two ordinances relates to development requirements in the Estes Park Development Code, including all applications for rezoning and planned unit developments. The other references the repeal of section 4.3, an ordinance that requires Residential Zoning Districts to eliminate the density bonuses in RM Multi-Family Residential zoning district for attainable and workforce housing and the associated building height limits.
Petitioners got word from the Town Clerk on June 13, learning that the 246 verified and valid signatures from registered voters within the town limits made the petition sufficient. Voter protests can be filed through June 25 with the Town Clerk for failure of any portion of a petition or circulator affidavit to meet the requirements of the title, according to a news release from Public Information Officer Kate Miller.
Given the contents of the ordinances, there are no grounds for protest, Miller added in the release.
The Town Clerk and Town Board will consider the petition at its July 8 meeting if no protests are received. At that time, the board can either adopt the ordinances as submitted, or refer them to the voters at a special municipal election or coordinated election. The latter option would necessitate a majority vote from registered electors to approve the ordinance.
Both the notices of sufficiency and the petitions are available for review at estes.org/elections. Residents can reach out to the clerkâs office at 970-577-4777 for more information.
