Gail Borden library closures extended to Jan. 13 The closure of Gail Borden Public Library’s main and branch locations has been extended through Jan. 13 because COVID-19 cases and positivity rates continue to be high.

However, the library emphasized in in making the closure announcement that it continues to offer a variety of services, including: • The drive-up windows at Main and Rakow libraries remain open for services (check the library’s website, www.gailborden.info, for hours.

• Curbside service at South Elgin and the Bookmobile contactless service continue.

• Reference services and Interlibrary loan continue.

• Dozens of virtual programs can be found at gailborden.info/virtualprograms.

• Home delivery is available to district residents who find it difficult to use the drive-up window at this time. Email svetter@gailborden.info or call 847-429-5999.

• Printing is available for up to 20 pages at no charge. Please visit gailborden.info/printfromhome.

Four snowshoeing programs planned for this winter The Forest Preserve District of Kane County’s “Exploring by Snowshoe” programs will offer skills needed to be comfortable snowshoeing, district officials said in a press release.

After mastering skills like stride length, heel-toe step and climbing over obstacles, participants will hit the trail for a naturalist-guided hike, according to the release.

Four sessions of the program will be offered: From 10 a.m. to noon Dec.

30 at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, 37W700 Dean St. in St. Charles; 9 to 11 a.m. Jan. 31 at Camp Tomo Chi- Chi Knolls, 40W095 Freeman Road in Gilberts; from 1 to 3 p.m. Feb. 15 at Dick Young Forest Preserve, 2S326 Nelson Lake Road in Batavia; and 1 to 3 p.m. March 4 at Burnidge Forest Preserve, 38W235 Big Timber Road in Elgin.

The fee is $25 per person for the program. Fees will be collected at the program, with payment by cash or check required. The fee includes the equipment rental, skills training and guided hike, officials said.

Registration and shoe size is required one week prior to the program.

Forest preserve hike scheduled for New Year’s Day The Forest Preserve District of Kane County will offer a hike on New Year’s Day in St. Charles.

The hike will run from 9 to 10 a.m. at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve at 37W700 Dean St. in St. Charles.

The free program is for all ages.
