


Dominic Yu scored twice for the second consecutive game as the Marin Academy boys soccer team defeated Stuart Hall 3-2 on Friday to claim the BCL West regular-season title.
The Wildcats (8-7-4, 8-1-1) also got a goal and an assist fro River Jones and two assists from Alex Schoell. MC wraps up the top seed and avoids both Lick-Wilmerding and University until the final. MA could face San Domenico in the semifinals if the Panthers beat Urban on Saturday.
Tam and Archie Williams battled to a 1-1 draw in the final MCAL game of the season. The draw moves Tam (7-5-5, 3-3-2) into fourth place and means the Red-tailed Hawks will host Branson in an MCAL first-round game at 3 p.m. on Monday.
San Rafael and Marin Catholic are set to battle in an MCAL play-in game for the last spot in next week’s playoffs at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night. The San Rafael girls face Kelseyville in a non-league game at 5 p.m. in the first part of the twin bill. The winner of the play-in game advances to face Terra Linda on the road at 3 p.m. Monday.
Girls soccer
Reese Goodenough scored once and Marin Academy benefitted from an own goal in a 2-0 victory against Convent of the Sacred Heart on Friday. Sadie Goodenough assisted the goal for MA. The Wildcats (15-1-1, 10-0-0 BCL West) capped a perfect run through league play. MA hosts The Branson School at 1 p.m. on Saturday in a key game for North Coast Section Division II playoff positioning.
MA, the top seed in the BCL West, is also set to host No. 4 Lick-Wilmerding in the league semifinals at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
San Domenico, with its ranks diminished by injury and the flu, fell to Urban 6-0 in San Francisco on Friday. The Panthers suffered further injury when Coda Swaim and Keira Plunkett went both went down and were unable to return. Ana Wang and Leila Olson stepped up with solid play for the Panthers (2-8-4, 0-7-3 BCL West).
College baseball
Ben Sebastiani and Danil Wells both homered in the first inning to power College of Marin to a 9-6 victory over Delta on Friday. The Mariners (3-4) still needed a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth inning, powered by an RBI-single from Sawyer Sheldon, who later scored. Wells was 2-for-4 with a double. Dante Caiati hit a solo home run, and Derek Bartram tripled and drove in a run.
Women’s basketball
Redwood High grad Kylie Horstmyer scored a team-high 19 points and grabbed four rebounds during San Diego’s 66-64 home loss to Portland. Horstmeyer knocked down an open 3-pointer to kick off the scoring and closed a strong first quarter with a mid-range jumper to give the Toreros a 24-20 lead at the end of the first quarter. Horstmeyer continued her phenomenal first half by scoring the final bucket of the half with a layup as the clock was expiring to give USD a 41-30 lead heading into the locker room. San Diego (4-18, 0-13 WCC) is scheduled to host Oregon State on Saturday.
Women’s tennis
The Penguins picked up their first win of the season as Dominican University beat Menlo, 5-2, on Friday. The Penguins rolled early in the singles portion as Logan Koitka won the first point of the segment with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 victory over the Oaks’ Carlotta Stern. Gina Dudley completed a 6-3, 6-0 win over Livia Harper at No. 1 singles to put Dominican a point away from the clinch. Maria Gavrilov held off Andrea Vlasceanu to win 6-4 and deliver the team victory to the Penguins.
