The County of Los Angeles Board of Supervisors on Tuesday unanimously approved a motion to move forward on a project to renovate the Norwood Library, a Los Angeles County Public Library in El Monte.

The project aims to refurbish the lobby area, meeting room, offices, staff lounge, restrooms, other areas, and exterior improvements at the site, at 4550 Peck Road.

“This renovation is not just about bricks and mortar; it’s about empowering our community for years to come,” said Supervisor Hilda Solis, whose motion the board approved.

With it, officials leveraged funds from local, state and federal sources to get the $7 million project going.

The board’s action on Tuesday reallocated and accepted the funding to enable the project to get off the ground.

Solis thanked state Assemblymember Mike Fong, D-Alhambra, for his efforts in helping to cobble together state funding. Other funding came from unspent funds available to the First District from previously completed projects, and $4.1 million in funds from the Federal Fiscal Year 2024 Transportation, Housing and Urban Development Appropriations Bill.
