Deleah Sharp will spend Saturday marking the end of National Crime Victims’ Rights Week with fellow survivors. Her brother, Dean J. Samuel, was shot and killed on July 4, 1996. He was 22.

She later founded a nonprofit, Identify Your Dream, to support other survivors and raise awareness to reduce gun violence.

On Saturday, she’ll be among speakers at a vigil hosted by Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice. Speakers will honor their loved ones and call for local, state and national policies to support new safety measures, including eliminating the backlog of untested rape kits.

Crime Survivors for Safety and Justice is a national network of more than 200,000 crime victims advocating for a justice system that prioritizes healing, prevention, and recovery. It is a flagship group of the Alliance for Safety and Justice. Learn more: https://cssj.org.
