Oak Lawn police said Thursday a 19-year-old Chicago man was charged with reckless homicide following a crash Tuesday that left a Midlothian man dead.
Peter Swenson is also charged with aggravated driving under the influence and was due to make an initial appearance Thursday at the Bridgeview courthouse, police said.
Police said they responded just after 3 a.m. Tuesday to an accident at Cicero Avenue and Southwest Highway.
An investigation showed a vehicle being driven southwest on Southwest Highway at a high rate of speed struck a vehicle heading south on Cicero, police said.
The vehicle that was hit was pushed up against a vacant business at 4821 W. Southwest Highway, and occupants of both vehicles were taken to the hospital, police said.
The driver of the vehicle later died at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
The Cook County medical examiner’s office identified him as 27-year-old Eglin Manuel Castro Alvarez, of the 3600 block of 147th Street in Midlothian. A cause of death was pending.
Police said a juvenile who was in the vehicle suffered serious injuries and was still hospitalized as of Thursday.
