The Matadores are pitching well. They had back-to-back shutouts against Fullerton (4-0) and Kennedy (8-0) before closing the week with a 4-2 win over La Habra. They have won six straight heading into today’s Gateway League opener against Downey.

2. WHITTIER CHRISTIAN (12-4)
The Heralds beat Village Christian 16-0 in their Olympic League opener and play Village Christian again today. They will take on Maranatha this week in league play. Sophomore Mia Camacho is batting .426 with 20 RBIs and three home runs.

3. SONORA (10-2)
After starting the season 9-2, the Raiders have lost two of their past three, falling to Brea Olinda (7-6) and Sunny Hills (11-2). Senior Savannah Saiza is batting .333 with 14 RBIs and two home runs.

4. CHARTER OAK (5-0)
Junior Mikala Diebert hit a walk-off home run in a 4-3 win over El Dorado. The Chargers begin Valle Vista League play Thursday against San Dimas.

5. SOUTH HILLS (7-4-1)
The Huskies have not seen a lot of action lately. They will play a nonleague game against Citrus Valley on Wednesday before starting Hacienda League play next week against Los Altos. As a team, they’re batting .428 with 10 home runs.

6. GANESHA (9-4-1)
The Giants beat Pomona 22-1 and La Puente 26-0 to open 2-0 in the Miramonte League. They will be heavily favored to roll through the rest of the league.

7. CALIFORNIA (6-5)
The Condors are starting to look like the team that had big expectations for this season. They had a 7-3 win over El Rancho and a 7-4 victory over La Serna to start 2-0 in the Del Rio League.

8. LA SERNA (5-3)
The Lancers last week took a big step backward in their pursuit of the Del Rio League title. They lost 6-5 to El Rancho and were beaten by California 7-4. They finished the week with a 14-3 win over Edison.

9. GLENDORA (7-4)
The Tartans were 4-0 in the Palomares League before a 16-0 loss to Ayala. The Tartans are the only team to beat Ayala in league play, winning 3-0 in 11 innings the first time they played. So, the Tartans are in a good position to earn at least a share of the league title. Tough games against Bonita lie ahead.

The Bearcats are 3-1 in the Palomares League after being roughed up in a 6-1 loss to Ayala and winning games against Walnut (12-0) and Diamond Bar (10-0).
