WATSONVILLE >> Police will shut down a portion of Main Street on Sunday morning to investigate the scene of a crash.

On March 15, a 57-year-old cyclist struck by a passing sedan was hospitalized for his injuries. After originally stating that the man had died early this week, police said Friday that he remains on life support.

According to police, the cyclist was traveling around 1 p.m. on Main Street near Rodriguez Street and appeared to be “following the rules of the road” at the time. A driver operating a Toyota sedan appeared to veer off the road and strike the cyclist. The 31-year-old driver remained at the scene of the crash and cooperated with investigators, according to police.

On Sunday, officers will block Main Street’s southbound traffic from 6 a.m. to noon between Rodriguez Street and St. Patrick’s Church.
