OAKLAND >> Fourteen people were injured, two of them critically, when a speeding car crashed into an AC Transit bus Friday in Oakland, according to authorities.
The collision, which involved three vehicles, was reported about 4:50 p.m. on International Boulevard near 54th Avenue, Oakland Fire Department spokesperson Michael Hunt said.
Hunt said a speeding car slammed into another car and then collided head-on with the AC Transit bus, which was westbound on International Boulevard.
The Oakland Police Department confirmed that a vehicle was eastbound in the International Boulevard bus lane at high speed when it hit another vehicle, causing both to lose control. The first vehicle then entered the westbound bus lane and collided head-on with the AC Transit bus, according to police.
Ten of the 14 were passengers on the bus.
Hunt said 20 firefighters were dispatched to the mass-casualty incident. They used the Jaws of Life to extricate people who were trapped in their cars following the collision.
