The PLAY Boulder Foundation, the nonprofit partner of Boulder Parks and Recreation, will host a free CrossFit class Saturday for low-income, Boulder-area youth.

The class will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the CrossFit Sanitas gym, 2525 Arapahoe Ave., and is open to anyone participating in the PLAY Boulder Foundation’s PLAYpass program.

According to a news release, the PLAYpass program provides non-cash “vouchers” to eligible young people that apply to the cost of class registration at any of 24 approved sports and recreation service providers.

The purpose of the program is to “break down barriers to fee-based participation in sports and recreation programs, ensuring that all Boulder youth have the chance to thrive and lead healthy, active lifestyles,” the release stated.

To qualify for the program, individuals must be Boulder County residents age 17 or under, and they must provide proof of participation in a program such as SNAP, free and reduced lunches or Medicaid. Currently, the PLAYpass program has a waitlist of over 260 young people.
