Facing fourth down inside Concord’s 10-yard line and trailing 27-26 with 30 seconds to play, junior quarterback Nate Lukins hit Timmy Dooley for the go-ahead score.

Lukins passed for 289 yards with three touchdowns and a pick on 23-for-33 attempts in his first varsity starter at quarterback for Casa Grande (1-0).

Senior wide receiver Logan Urton hauled in 15 receptions for 221 yards with a touchdown and senior Max Comma also had a touchdown and 40 yards receiving.

Running back Jonathan Morales had a big game on the ground, as he finished with 141 rushing yards with a score on 21 carries. Chris Kircher also added a rushing touchdown.

On defense, Rylo Wyre led Casa Grande with 14 tackles, two tackles for loss and one interception that would have been a 60-yard pick-six, but was called back due to a block-in-the-back penalty.

Callaway Huluska recorded seven tackles for the Gauchos.

Casa Grande hosts Las Lomas (1-0) in its home opener next.

Justin-Siena 20, Kelseyville 18: The Braves started off their 2026 season with a wild comeback victory at home over the Knights on Friday night.

Leading 20-18 with 30 seconds left, Justin-Siena (1-0) fumbled a handoff exchange right into the hands of a Kelseyville lineman, who ran the ball untouched 35 yards into the end zone for what would have been the go-ahead score.

The touchdown, however, was called back due to a penalty and the Braves forced a fumble on the very next play to seal the win, their first since the 2024 season.

Charlier Rohrs had the game-sealing strip sack and Jordan Sagehorn had the recovery.

Justin-Siena trailed 12-0 early before scoring 20 unanswered points to take a 20-12 advantage into the fourth. The Knights found the end zone early in the quarter but were unsuccessful on a two-point try that would have tied the game.

“This group of seniors was 1-29 before last night,” said Justin-Siena first-year head coach Jimmy Cerf. “So to come back and win, to play all four quarters of football and to never give up says a lot about the young men on our team.”

Senior quarterback Bryden Landry passed for two touchdowns and ran for another. John Rampa and Blaine Fletcher each had a receiving touchdown and Matteo Barbosa had a stellar all-around game with more than 100 receiving yards and multiple key defensive plays.

Cerf also highlighted JJ Gamsby and Colin McMahon as defensive standouts.

Next up, Justin-Siena will play at Alhambra on Friday.

American Canyon 15, Clayton Valley Charter 14: The Wolves pulled out an incredible season-opening win on the road Friday night on some last-second heroics.

Trailing 14-7 with just seconds left in the fourth quarter, American Canyon quarterback Kameron Hunter found Griffin Morgan for a 75-yard touchdown pass as time expired and Isaac Anderson ran in a successful two-point conversion for the win.

“It was a very, very good feeling for us to win the game on the road,” American Canyon head coach Marcellus Holmes told the Vallejo Times-Herald on Saturday. “We managed the clock very well, and I can’t say enough about the coaching staff and the players. To win this game on the road how we did gives us a good feeling in believing what we’re set out to do.”

Clayton Valley Charter was the No. 9 team in the preseason NCS MaxPreps rankings and were the runners-up in the Division 2 playoffs last season.

American Canyon (1-0) will host Sacramento (1-0) in its home opener next Friday.

St. Vincent 40, Mesa Verde-Citrus Heights 0: The Mustangs opened their season with a running-clock win Friday night in east Sacramento.

St. Vincent (1-0) led 31-0 at halftime and got the scoring started on a 34-yard scoop-and-score touchdown from freshman George McConnell off a strip sack by Matteo Rippoll.

The Mustangs forced three turnovers on the evening and their offense kicked into gear in the first half.

Will Pederson completed 12-of-19 passing attempts for 206 yards and two touchdowns. Keith Lectora and Gianni Enriquez had the receiving scores, while Barrett Chaput led the way on offense with six catches for 116 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Levi Kennedy also had a rushing touchdown as he finished with 60 yards on the ground.

The defense was the story of the night. McConnell had a pair of sacks and a tackle for loss, Harry Bettinelli had 11 tackles and two tackles for loss and Ethan Glenn racked up 10 tackles with one for loss.

“Defensively, we played really well,” said St. Vincent head coach Trent Herzog.

Dylan Chelew added two field goals from 25 and 37 yards and St. Vincent triggered the running clock by the end of the third quarter.

The Mustangs play at St. Bernard’s-Eureka on Saturday.

Ukiah 50, Orland 14: The Wildcats put up a crooked number in their season opener Friday night.

Junior quarterback Jayden Bird passed for two touchdowns and junior running back Dante Giacomini had four rushing touchdowns on the night for Ukiah (1-0), which led 29-7 at half and 44-14 at the end of three. Malachi Dennington also had a receiving touchdown.

Ukiah will play at Arcata next.

Maria Carrillo 21, Piner 13: The Pumas pulled away from the Prospectors in the second half to open their season with a road win Friday night.

Carrillo (1-0) broke a 7-7 halftime tie with a score midway through the third quarter and then added another score minutes later after a blocked punt gave them good field position inside Piner territory.

Piner (0-1) returned the ensuing kickoff for a touchdown to pull back within a score but would get no closer.

Andrew Godfrey led Maria Carrillo on offensive with 127 yards and two touchdowns on 23 carries and Jai Sihota also scored a 12-yard touchdown run. Junior quarterback Kayne Arnold threw for 110 yards in his varsity debut.

On defense, Joshua Bade led the Pumas with four solo tackles, one assist and an interception, while Logan Godfrey had four tackles (one assist), Cullen Capone had two sacks and Luka Okeefe had one.

“We did some good things, but we’re looking forward to getting to work on some areas we can improve,” said Maria Carrillo head coach Jay Higgins.

The Pumas will host Windsor next on Sept. 11, while Piner will look to bounce back next week at Willits (0-1).

Analy 62, Wood 33: It took a little bit for the Tigers’ offense to get warmed up, but when it did they rolled past the Wildcats in a season-opening rout Friday night.

Analy (1-0) got the scoring started with a 21-yard rushing score by Kaleb Jacobs early in the second quarter and then added three more scores in a high-octane frame that a saw combined 40 points scored over 11 minutes.

The Tigers took a 27-13 lead into the break thanks to a kickoff return touchdown from Clayton Graham in the final seconds of the first half, one of two kickoff scores he had on the night.

The visitors kept their foot on the gas in the second half and never surrendered their two-score lead for the rest of the game.

Jacobs finished with 210 rushing yards on 13 carries with three touchdowns, while quarterback Matthew Medina went 12-for-17 passing for 178 yards with two scores. Both of his passing touchdowns were hauled in by Logan Willis, who finished with 110 yards on five receptions.

Elias Hector added a rushing touchdown and Brady Andrews had an interception on defense.

“We started a little bit slow, typical first-game mistakes,” said Analy head coach Dan Bourdon. “Then we got our groove. We ran the ball pretty well tonight.”

Analy will next play at Foothill-Pleasanton.

Vintage 21, Benicia 20 (OT): The Crushers pulled out a thrilling overtime win over the visiting Panthers on Friday night in their season opener.

Tied 14-14 at the end of regulation, Vintage (1-0) pulled out some trickery on their first possession of overtime as Wyatt Rohrs got the ball on a double reverse and found Jayden Sass in the back of the end zone.

Benicia (0-1) answered with a score on its following possession, but its attempt to win the game on a two-point try was snuffed out at the goal line.

Vintage will play at Tamalpais (0-1) next.

Sacramento 18, Sonoma Valley 13: The Dragons’ season opener went down to the wire on Saturday afternoon, but they ultimately fell on the road to Sacramento.

Sonoma Valley made it to the six-yard line, down five points, with six seconds left. The Dragons attempted two passes from that spot, but both were broken up by Sacramento.

Sacramento got out to a 12-0 lead in the first quarter via two touchdowns and added to its lead in the second quarter with another score to make it 18-0.

Sophomore running back Wylder Gilardi scored a three-yard touchdown with 7:10 left in the second quarter for the Dragons, making it 18-6. Gilardi later scored again, this time punching it in on an outside run to the right from 10 yards out to narrow the gap to 18-13.

Neither team scored in the second half.

Sonoma Valley had a chance to tighten the game but missed a 36-yard field goal with 7:47 left in the contest.
