(Records through Monday)

1. LA MIRADA ( 4-0)

Senior pitcher Montserrat Reyes-Cardenas is a San Diego State commit. The Matadores also return shortstop Amanda Urbina, an Oregon commit who was injured last year, and third baseman Angelyna Conde, a Texas Tech commit. They are one of the best teams in the CIF-SS. La Mirada has a huge game Saturday against Norco.

2. CALIFORNIA (2-2)

The Condors lost two close games during the Bonita tournament, falling to eventual champion Ayala (3-2) and Alta Loma (4-3). They can compete with any team after reaching the Division 2 finals last season and finishing 28-5 overall. The team returns two standout pitchers, senior Pricilla Ramirez and junior Alexis Salas.

3. LA SERNA (2-0)

The Lancers notched an impressive 3-1 win over Mission Viejo after opening with an 8-2 victory over St. Paul. They return seven All-Del Rio league selections, including first-teamers Candace Puig (pitcher), Elisa Guerrero (catcher) and Aubrey Baruchn (shortstop).

4. SOUTH HILLS (2-1)

New coach Jesse Mendez takes over a squad that was in the Division 1 playoffs last season. Junior third baseman Mikayla Sta. Ana is one of the area’s best hitters, and they have solid pitching with junior Parker Milton and senior Abigail Quintero.

5. SONORA (4-0)

The Raiders are off to a fast start with wins over Santa Fe (14-1), St. Paul (5-0) and Marina (8-2). They have a good challenge this week as they take on La Serna. Senior pitcher Bayle Hunnicutt is off to an impressive 3-0 start with 31 strikeouts in 19 innings.

6. CHARTER OAK (0-0)

The Chargers were 19-3-1 last season. They bring back standout pitcher Leila Diebert, who as a freshman was 15-2 with a 1.30 ERA. Her sister, Mikayla Diebert, a junior, batted .547 last year.

7. BONITA (3-1)

The Bearcats advanced to the championship game of their own tournament last week before a 13-7 loss to Ayala in the championship game. Two sophomores are off to huge starts. Koa Puppe has four home runs and 11 RBIs, and Sara Yeats has two home runs.

8. WHITTIER CHRISTIAN (3-1)

The Heralds have become a softball factory. They lost shortstop Aleena Garcia, who is now at UCLA, but they return plenty. Senior pitcher Bobbie Lozano is back after going 15-5 with a 2.65 ERA a year ago, and sophomore pitcher Sofia Gonzalez could get more time in the circle.

9. BISHOP AMAT (2-2)

The Lancers had good wins over San Dimas and Arcadia and the losses were to strong opponents in Ayala and California. The Lancers continue to rebuild their program and are headed in the right direction. Junior Julyssa Jimenez is their top returning hitter.

10. LOS ALTOS (1-0)

The Conquerors boast arguably the area’s best player in shortstop Brianah Alejandre, a UCLA commit. Freshman pitcher Kaylahni Duenas threw four no-hit innings with seven strikeouts in their season-opening 11-1 win over Norwalk.
