(Records through Monday)
1. LA MIRADA (1-0)
The Matadores are loaded with talent. Seniors Maverek Russell (3B) and Aiden Aguayo (SS) are both headed to UCLA. Outfielder Kevin Jeon is a Boston College commit and center fielder Travis Friend is going to Loyola Marymount. Pitchers Luke Armijo and Kaden Corns are back. They were 25-8 last season, reached the CIF-SS D1 quarterfinals and are better this year.
2. SOUTH HILLS (2-1)
The Huskies lost to Bonita 4-2 in the semifinals of the Pizza Chalet tournament, but their pitching quality and depth make them No. 2 in the SGV area rankings. They return senior Elias Reyes, who is headed to Loyola Marymount. If they can hit and score runs consistently, they will be dangerous.
3. MARANATHA (0-1)
The Minutemen have the talent to compete with any team. They return senior pitcher Zach Strickland, a UCLA commit, and senior outfielder Josh Proctor, an Oregon State commit. Senior pitcher Matt Vazquez is headed to Westmont.
4. ARCADIA (3-0)
The Apaches are in the Pizza Chalet championship game today against Bonita at Mt. SAC at 6 p.m. They beat La Serna (4-1), Montebello (7-3) and Bishop Amat (8-4) to reach the title game. They have good hitting and pitching balance.
5. BONITA (3-0)
The Bearcats’ 4-2 win over South Hills to reach today’s Pizza Chalet championship game against Arcadia was impressive. The Bearcats were 19-8 last season and return senior pitcher Camden Farino, who is headed to Westmont.
6. BISHOP AMAT (2-1)
The Lancers will play South Hills in the third-place game of the Pizza Chalet today. They opened with back-to-back shutouts of Charter Oak (5-0) and San Dimas (1-0) before an 8-4 loss to Arcadia. The Lancers have solid pitching.
7. SAN DIMAS (2-1)
The Saints graduated several big-time players from last year’s 25-5 squad that reached the Division 1 quarterfinals, but they’re still very formidable. Senior outfielder and pitcher Vaughn Coleman, an Arizona State commit, is the Saints’ headliner.
8. LA SALLE (2-1)
The Lancers opened the Pizza Chalet tournament with a 3-1 win over Arcadia before a 4-1 loss to South Hills and a 9-4 victory over Crescenta Valley. The Lancers were 17-11 last year and return two All-Del Rey League players in junior catcher Chris Cardenas and senior pitcher Morgan Sullivan.
9. DAMIEN (2-1)
The Spartans won the Baseline League tournament last season. The Spartans’ top players to watch are senior pitcher Jayden Avina, a Hawaii commit, junior third baseman Elius Kelly, senior lefty pitchers Rudy O’Dell, Andrew Torres and junior catcher Gino Tarzia.
10. SAN MARINO (3-0)
Want a sleeper Top 10 team? How about the Titans. They were 21-8 last season, won the Rio Hondo League and are off to a 3-0 start. Senior pitcher Tomas Bilvado returns after going 10-2 with a 1.47 ERA last season.
