Jug band sing and play-along
This month the Ukulele Club of Santa Cruz is featuring the accordion at the jug band sing and strum-along with the Trolley Drops at Pono Hawaiian Grill, 120 Union St., on Thursday from 5:45 to 7:30 p.m.
All accordions and accordion players are welcome to join in the fun. If you don’t have an accordion then bring what you have: your voices, ukes, jugs, kazoos, washboards, guitars, fiddles and your good humor. The genre will be songs from the ’20s and ’30s. Song lyrics and chords will be projected on the wall. Everyone is encouraged to sing and play along with the band. Lots of parking nearby. It’s fun and it’s free, but plan to buy a meal or a drink to support the venue.

End-of-school-year party at the library
The Boulder Creek Branch Library invites you to join on Thursday from 12:30 to 3:30 p.m. for The Last Day of School Party. There will be crafts, games, snacks and root beer floats to enjoy for the whole family! Plus, sign up for Santa Cruz Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, which is all about supporting summer learning through reading, programs and events. Mid County Senior Center benefit dance
The Mid County Senior Center will be hosting a benefit dance and concert featuring The Big Shot from Las Vegas, Johnny Fabulous, playing with Bill Bosch, Ban Sibley and Bradley Hecht from 7-9 p.m. Friday at 829 Bay Ave.
Cost of admission is $10. Mid County Senior Center provides a variety of programs and activities for the local community. Ages 18 and over are welcome to participate in the dances.

Festival seeks float builders for nautical parade
The 7th annual Capitola Beach Festival celebrates Capitola Village on Sept. 27 and 28 with family friendly beach, creek and wharf activities. There will be a fun run, a sand sculpture contest, live music, rowboat races, fishing derby and more. Most events are free.
Float builders are needed for the Saturday Lighted Nautical Parade on Soquel Creek. The festival provides the barge and building site, you provide the lights and the fun. Decorations can be high tech or low tech. The top three finishers receive cash awards for their favorite nonprofit. For additional information, contact capitolabeachfestival@gmail.com.

Cars and Coffee fundraising for football team
Join Watsonville Cars and Coffee at the East Lake Village Shopping Center at 936 E. Lake Ave., every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. This week’s car show will be a fundraiser for the Watsonville High School football team. The event showcases an amazing collection of classic cars and hot rods at this people-friendly, family-friendly and pet-friendly gathering while also supporting the small local businesses in the shopping center.

Nonprofit hosting a track meet this summer
Ready to test your fitness? Want to try a new event? Getting ready for a big race? Or just looking for a fun way to spend your summer Saturday mornings? Join the Santa Cruz Track Club for their Summer 2025 All Comers Meet happening June 21 and July 5 at the Santa Cruz High Field, 415 Walnut Ave.
Field events start at 10 a.m. and track events start at 10:30 a.m. The pole vault, high jump, long jump, discus and shot put are included in the field events. Track events feature the 4X100-meters relay, 4X400, the 100-meter, 200, 400, 800, 1600, 3200, 110-meter hurdles and 300-meter hurdles. Participants can compete in multiple events.

Group to screen new film on Quaker activist
Join Friends at the Quaker Meetinghouse, 225 Rooney St., at 7 p.m. Saturday for a free screening of the new film “Citizen George,” about the life and work of George Lakey, the 86-year-old Quaker activist and nonviolent revolutionary who has worked his entire life for justice and peace. From Waging Nonviolence: “Citizen George” is a well-timed documentary that offers important lessons for navigating today’s era of political conflict with hope and courage.” All are welcome. County seeks input for Measure Q plan
Santa Cruz County is calling on community members to help shape the Measure Q Vision Plan, a roadmap for investing in clean water, wildfire protection, public access and the preservation of parks, beaches and natural areas. To gather input, Santa Cruz County Parks is hosting a series of in-person community open house meetings, plus an online survey available through July 3. Events will feature interactive maps, project information and bilingual materials.
The in-person community open houses are as follow: June 9, 6-7:30 p.m. at the Civic Plaza Community Room (4th Floor) at 275 Main Street, Watsonville. Bilingual staff will be in attendance.
