LAKEWOOD >> Niwot combined to win 14 events at the state track and field meet this past weekend, giving the Cougars dominant wins in both the boys and girls 4A team races.

Longmont finished eighth in both 4A girls and boys, while Mead’s girls were ninth.

Let’s take a look at a few other notables from the final day at Jefferson County Stadium on Saturday.

Longmont nets nine more top-10 finishes on final day

Terra Brubaker was fourth in the 400 (57.29 seconds) and ninth in the 200 (25.92) for the girls, while Lea Irvin was fifth in the 100 hurdles (15.28) and ninth in the 300 hurdles (46.93).

CU commit Teagan Malcom led the boys with three more top-three finishes Saturday, including a win in the 300 hurdles.

Three local relays place top six in 4A girls 4×400

Niwot (Eliana Henriques, Sammie Holliday, Kate Schmidthuber and Reese Kasper) ran a 4A meet record in Friday’s preliminaries, going 3:50.19. And though the Cougars were even faster in the finals, at 3:48.93, Windsor took gold and the record in 3:48.21.

The same group of four won the 4×200 in a 4A record time of 1:38.86 for the Cougars on Friday.

Longmont’s girls (Alex McGregor, Lea Irvin, Grace Vincent and Brubaker), meanwhile, finished fifth in 3:59.37, and Mead (Sage Morris, Charlotte Gagne, Taylor Gordon and Rylee Klatt) was sixth in 4:00.12.

Niwot’s anchor, Kasper, won the 300 and 100 hurdles earlier in the day. Klatt, Brubaker and Holliday went 2-4-5 in the 400. Klatt was third in the 100 and fourth in the 200.

Henriques, meanwhile, won the long jump (18 feet, 3 inches) and finished second in the triple jump (35-10.25).

Monarch puts two in top 10 in 5A pole vault

Senior Ethan Nuttall was fourth in the 5A pole vault, leaping 14 feet and 10 inches. Teammate Thomas Cole was eighth (13-10).

Nuttall finished third in the event in 2024 and sixth in 2023.

Jefferson Academy lands four more top-five finishes

Sierra Buzick netted another two podiums Saturday, taking fourth in the 3A girls 100-meter run (12.44 seconds), while she along with Elsa Nygren, Mckenna Adams and Monica Slusser were fifth in the 4×100 (50.87).

Buzick had taken fourth in the long jump (17 feet and 2.50 inches) Thursday.

Georgia Miller added bronze in the 100-meter hurdles (15.80) for the Jaguars’ girls team, which took 11th. Zachary Owings was fourth in the 100 (10.96) for the boys team, which placed 28th. He took ninth in the 200 (22.94).

Erie’s Hayden Fox takes fifth in 400

The senior ran 48.28 in the Saturday’s 5A 400. A year ago, he didn’t advance out of the prelims round.

Frederick’s boys 4×400 is fourth

The Golden Eagles took fourth in the 5A 4×400 as senior Tanner Kaufman rallied to gain a position during his anchor leg, clocking the relay in at 3:20.62.

Kaufman, who recently committed to Colorado State University, also finished 16th in the 5A mile (4:30.12) Saturday. On Friday, he took second in the 800 (1:52.50).

Other notables

Mead’s Johanna Williams took seventh in 4A shot put at 35 feet and 7.50 inches. Niwot’s Jade West won the event with a throw of 42-7.75, while her teammate, Mahlya Blanks was second at 37-2.

Niwot got a third-place finish from Kingston Staton in the 4A boys triple jump (43-9.50) and a fourth-place finish from Sienna Wood in the girls triple jump (35-4.50).

Nederland’s River LeMaster was seventh in the 2A girls high jump (4-8).
