Noteworthy: Gates, a Syracuse commit in football, won his heat in the 100 meters open portion of the Arcadia Invitational, winning in a personal-best time of 10.60 seconds. It was the fastest time in the meet’s open races, and it is the 15th fastest time in the CIF Southern Section this season. Gates, who is running track for the first time, has won six of the seven races he has entered this season.
