Emily Minugh, the Berthoud woman who faces felony and misdemeanor charges after being accused of fleeing from Larimer County Sheriff’s Office deputies in a high-speed chase last year, has pleaded not guilty and will stand trial in August.
Minugh, 54, appeared before 8th Judicial District Court Chief Judge Susan Blanco at the Larimer County Justice Center in Fort Collins on Friday where she pleaded not guilty to the charges against her stemming from the incident.
Deputies tried to stop Minugh early in the morning Aug. 20, 2024 near the intersection of Colo. 402 and Interstate 25, according to previously released information. Minugh is accused of not stopping for the emergency lights and sirens and instead speeding away, reaching speeds above 100 mph.
She crashed near the intersection of Wheatridge Court and County Road 18 in Loveland. She is accused of then opening the driver’s side door and producing a firearm, resulting in deputies firing their weapons, hitting her several times, according to previously released information.
She was taken to a local hospital and arrested several days later upon her release. District Attorney Gordon McLaughlin later cleared the two deputies of wrongdoing following the completion of a Critical Incident Response Team investigation.
She was charged with two counts of first-degree assault by threatening a peace officer with a weapon, a class 3 felony; two counts of felony menacing with a real or simulated weapon, a class 5 felony; vehicular eluding, a class 5 felony; DUI, an unclassified misdemeanor; and reckless driving, a class 2 traffic offense.
Blanco scheduled her to appear for a preliminary hearing at 1:30 p.m. May 6 and a pretrial conference at 11:30 a.m. Aug. 6 ahead of her four-day jury trial set to begin Aug. 25.
Minugh remains in custody at the Larimer County Jail in Fort Collins on a $20,100 cash only bond between this case and a previous failure-to-appear warrant.
