Soroptimist International of Sonoma Valley will be hiding 3,500 plastic eggs on Sonoma Plaza in preparation for its annual children’s Easter egg hunt this weekend.

Set for Saturday, April 4, at 10 a.m., the free event has been sponsored by the Soroptimist group for the past 45 years and is open to everyone. Children from ages 2 to 9 are invited to participate in the hunt if accompanied by an adult.

The event is dubbed the fastest Easter egg hunt in the city. Organizers caution participants to arrive on time because all the eggs are found within a few minutes.

Soroptimist volunteers will hide the eggs in the northwest and northeast quadrants of The Plaza. Sections will be taped off into separate groups, with children placed into four age divisions: 2 and 3, 4 and 5, 6 and 7, and 8 and 9.

Children are invited to fill their baskets (brought from home) with the eggs they find. A prize egg will be planted for each age group and if found, can be turned in to receive a special basket.

Peter Rabbit will make a special appearance and after the egg hunt, children can visit him and take a picture until 10:45 a.m.
