The Spring Burn Season Kickoff is happening on Monday, April 28 from 5 to 7 p.m. at 820 Walnut Lane. in Winters. Anyone interested in prescribed fire is welcome to attend, including private landowners, community members, and interested volunteers.
To attend, RSVP at www.tinyurl.com/Y-S-PBA-spring.According to a press release, this is a potluck event; attendees are encouraged to bring a dish. Food (hot dogs and snacks) and non-alcoholic drinks will be provided. This is an excellent opportunity for local residents to engage with local PBAs to learn more about prescribed fire opportunities in Solano and Yolo counties.
The Yolo and Solano Prescribed Burn Associations are community groups with the goal of using “good fire” on the ecosystem to manage invasive weeds, mitigate extreme wildfire, and promote a healthy ecosystem.
Prescribed Burn Associations create partnerships between neighbors, members of the public, and relevant agency officials to build capacity and training about how to properly and safely use prescribed fire as a land management tool, and then to implement the burns. Unlike high-intensity wildfires, prescribed burning is the controlled application of fire under preplanned management objectives and precise environmental conditions. In addition to managing wildfire risk, prescribed burning is a cost-effective management tool that can be used to maintain and generate desired native vegetation and benefit rangeland.
This Spring Burn Season Kick-Off is an excellent opportunity to learn from experts and ask questions about how prescribed fire can be used as a land management tool in Yolo and Solano counties. People of all professional backgrounds and experience levels are invited to attend the event.
