The Associated Press national player of the week in women’s college basketball for Week 12 of the season is UCLA’s Lauren Betts.
The junior center averaged 27.3 points, 9.7 rebounds and six blocks to help top-ranked UCLA beat Baylor, Rutgers and Maryland last week. She had a school record nine blocks at the inaugural Coretta Scott King Classic against the Bears. She followed that up with a career-high 33 points, making 14 of her 15 field goal attempts against then-No. 8 Maryland on Sunday.
Her 18 blocks on the three-game East Coast trip were the most ever by a Bruins player in such a span.
Runner-up was Mikayla Blakes of Vanderbilt. The Commodores guard averaged 28.5 points in the two wins last week.
NO. 12 KENTUCKY 78, NO. 8 TENNESSEE 73: Koby Brea scored 18 points to lead the visiting Wildcats to a win over the Volunteers in a men’s game Tuesday night.
Jaxson Robinson added 17 points as Kentucky (15-5, 4-3 Southeastern Conference) snapped a two-game skid.
Igor Milicic led Tennessee (17-4, 4-4) with 19 points and nine rebounds. Chaz Lanier scored 15 and Zakai Zeigler added 13.
Tennessee scored the last 11 points of the first half and led 33-30 at the break.
NO. 7 MICHIGAN ST. 73, MINNESOTA 51: Tre Holloman scored all 12 of his points in the first half, Jaden Akins had 10 of his 12 after halftime and the host Spartans routed the Golden Gophers.
Michigan State (18-2, 9-0 Big Ten) has won 13 straight games for the first time since the 2018-19 season.
Minnesota (11-10, 3-7) had won three straight Big Ten games, including against then-No. 15 Oregon and then-No. 20 Michigan. Dawson Garcia scored 21 points for the Gophers.
NO. 9 MARQUETTE 78, BUTLER 69: Stevie Mitchell scored 10 of his career-high 22 points during a key five-minute stretch in the second half, helping the visiting Golden Eagles beat the Bulldogs.
Marquette (18-3, 9-1 Big East) won its third straight to stay tied with No. 15 St. John’s atop the league standings.
Jahmyl Telfort scored 24 points for Butler (9-12, 2-8).
NO. 11 KANSAS 91, UCF 87: Zeke Mayo scored 24 points, including a pair of clinching free throws with 3.1 seconds left and the host Jayhawks rallied to beat the Knights to avoid their first back-to-back losses in Allen Fieldhouse in 36 years.
Hunter Dickinson added 24 points for Kansas (15-5, 6-3 Big 12), which was coming off a double-overtime loss to sixth-ranked Houston.
The Knights (13-7, 4-5) got 34 points from Keyshawn Hall.
NO. 13 TEXAS A&M 75, OKLAHOMA 68: Zhuric Phelps had 15 points, Henry Coleman III added 14 and the host Aggies held on for a win over the Sooners.
Texas A&M (16-5, 5-3 Southeastern Conference) led by four with about 2 1/2 minutes left when a three-point play by Wade Taylor IV extended the lead to 68-61.
Brycen Goodine had 24 points for Oklahoma (15-5, 2-5).
NO. 15 ST. JOHN’S 66, GEORGETOWN 41: Kadary Richmond and Zuby Ejiofor had 13 points apiece as the visiting Red Storm rolled to a victory over the Hoyas, extending their winning streak to seven games.
First-place St. John’s (18-3, 9-1) is off to its best start since opening the 1985-86 season 20-2.
Malik Mack had 13 points for Georgetown (13-8, 4-6).
NO. 21 LOUISVILLE 72, WAKE FOREST 59: Terrence Edwards Jr. scored 18 points as the host Cardinals cruised past the Demon Deacons for their 10th straight win.
A 12-0 run midway through the first half gave Louisville (16-5, 9-1 ACC) a 26-11 lead with 8:26 left and the Cardinals led by 29 in the second half.
Hunter Salis, who came in third in the ACC with 18.9 points per game, scored 13 for Wake Forest (15-6, 7-3) before he was ejected with 14:47 remaining after picking up his second technical foul.
