The popular San Francisco Succulent Expo returns to Golden Gate Park this weekend.

Billed as the largest succulent show and sale in Northern California, the event is sponsored by the San Francisco Succulent and Cactus Society. The Bromeliad Society of San Francisco will also participate.

Visitors can view the succulent show, browse the unusual plants for sale from more than 40 plant vendors and shop for handcrafted pottery.

Here are some of the upcoming presentations.

Today

• The show judges discuss this year’s winners and their personal favorites at 11 a.m.

• Botanists Julia Etter and Martin Kristen discuss “Discover the Crassulaceae and Agavaceae of Jalisco, Michoacan, and Colima” at 1 p.m.

• Botanic Wonders’ Al Klein discusses “Succulent Bonsai and Staging Plants for Showing” at 2 p.m.

Sunday

• A live demonstration of cactus grafting at 11 a.m.

• Walker Young, the assistant curator of the Ruth Bancroft Garden, discusses “Succulent Propagation, Potting, and Gardening” at 12:30 p.m.

• Botanic Wonders’ Al Klein discusses “Growing Succulent Caudiciforms” at 2 p.m.

Details: The San Francisco Succulent Expo is from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at the San Francisco County Fair Building at 1199 Ninth Ave. in San Francisco. Admission is free. For more information, go to sfsucculent.org.

Allow extra time to find street parking. Saturday morning is the most crowded time with the longest lines. Afternoons and Sunday are the least crowded times. Bring your own boxes to transport purchases.
