1. LA MIRADA (3-0)
The area’s top team is off to a strong start with back-to-back shutout victories over San Diego’s St. Augustine (3-0) and Norco (1-0) after opening the season with a 9-2 win over Etiwanda. La Mirada is starting this week against Corona.

2. ARCADIA (5-0)
The Apaches had strong wins over Bishop Amat (8-4) and Bonita (6-1) in the semifinals and finals, respectively, to win the San Gabriel Valley Pizza Chalet tournament. The Apaches showed a strong blend of pitching, hitting and defense. They finished last week by beating Ganesha 3-1 in eight innings.

3. BISHOP AMAT (4-1)
The Lancers followed an 8-4 loss to Arcadia in the Pizza Chalet semifinals with a 10-3 win over South Hills and an impressive 6-3 victory over Damien. Their pitching has been consistent. They didn’t allow more than four runs in any of their games.

4. BONITA (3-2)
After a 3-0 start, the Bearcats have lost two straight. They fell to Arcadia 6-1 in the championship of the Pizza Chalet tournament, then surprisingly lost to Charter Oak 3-2 in eight innings.

5. SOUTH HILLS (2-2)
The Huskies got a rematch this week with Bonita (Tuesday) after losing to the Bearcats 4-2 in the semifinals of the Pizza Chalet tournament. The Huskies also lost to Bishop Amat 10-3. They have a talented roster and strong pitching, but runs seem hard to come by.

6. SAN DIMAS (3-2)
The Saints continue to be a wait-and-see team after going 25-5 last season and losing a lot of talented players to graduation. They went 3-1 in the Pizza Chalet tournament, but ended last week with a 3-0 loss to La Serna.

7. LA SALLE (4-2)
When the Lancers score runs, they’re tough to beat. After a 3-0 loss to San Dimas, they responded with a 5-3 win over St. Paul and a 7-5 win over Northview. They start this week playing Paraclete.

8. MARANATHA (0-2-1)
The Minutemen struggled in the SoCal Showdown, tying Etiwanda 10-10 and losing to Orange Lutheran 8-7. Those are tough opponents, but allowing 25 runs over three games is a concern for a team with so much talent.

9. MONROVIA (5-1)
After opening with a 5-1 loss to Mayfair, the Wildcats have won five straight, including a 2-1 victory over defending Rio Hondo League champion San Marino to open league play.

10. SAN MARINO (6-1)
This figured to be a strong season for the defending Rio Hondo League champion and the Titans have shown it with six wins in seven games. The loss was a 3-1 decision to league rival Monrovia.
