


The Sandwich Fair, which was first held in 1888 and is one of the oldest continuing county fairs in Illinois, opened Wednesday and will run through Sunday at the fairgrounds on the southern border of DeKalb County in Sandwich.
The historic fair had to be canceled last year due to the pandemic.
This year’s fair will run from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. through Friday, 8 a.m. to midnight Saturday and 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are available at the entrance gate after parking, and the cost of parking is included with admission. Adult tickets are $10, children 6 to 12 years old get in for $7, and children 5 years old and younger get in free. Season passes for the length of the fair are available for $25 for adults and $10 for children 6 to 12 years old.
Senior Day is Thursday at the fair, where everyone 65 years old and older will get in for $7 before 5 p.m.
On Friday, children 12 years old and younger will be get in free until 5 p.m. Everyone 13 years old and older will be admitted for $7 before 5 p.m.
After 3 p.m. Sunday, everyone will be admitted for $7.
Daily features include a carnival midway, live music, livestock judging, a farm zoo, exhibits and competitions, food, antique farm equipment, strolling entertainers and more.
There will be daily wristband specials for carnival rides each day except for Saturday.
The Friday night concert at the fair will feature country music performer Chris Janson on the Main Stage and will begin at 8 p.m.
Tickets for the concert are $35 for the pit area close to the stage and $25 for the festival area which includes bleachers, standing areas and space for those who bring a chair. The gates for the concert will open at 7 p.m.
The fair also includes truck pulls at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the pulling track, tractor pulls at 12:30 and 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the pulling track and demolition derbies at 1 and 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the track. Tickets are required to attend these events.
