Funeral services will be Wednesday for a man who died from injuries suffered in a house fire April 3 in New Lenox, officials said.

Visitation for Larry Gordon Crabb Sr. will begin at 11 a.m. at Kurtz Memorial Chapel, 102 E. Francis Road, New Lenox, until the 1p.m. funeral service. Interment with full military honors will follow at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood.

Crabb, 69, was pulled from the blazing home in the 2200 block of Sanford by his son, Larry Jr., who was assisted by a utility worker who was in the neighborhood at the time.

The son arrived about 9:30 a.m. to discover the home engulfed in flames, officials said. Both father and son were transported to Silver Cross Hospital for their injuries, officials said. Larry Jr. was treated and released, but his father was transported to Loyola Medical Center, where he died from his injuries Friday, officials said.

One of the family’s two dogs also died in the blaze.

Crabb is the first fire fatality in the New Lenox Fire Protection District in nearly 10 years, said NLFPD spokeswoman Marisa Schrieber.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but deputy police Chief Louis Alessandrini said it was likely an electrical issue, possibly due to a phone charger.

Crabb Sr. was a U.S. Army veteran, who served in Vietnam, and a member of Local 73 Sheet Metal Workers Union, according to his obituary.

He is survived by another son, Todd, and daughter, Amanda, eight grandchildren, two sisters, one brother, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In lieu of flowers, the family is seeking donations to the Burn Foundation, www.burnfoundation.org or Wounded Warrior Project, www.woundedwarrior project.org.
